PicoSure Pro is a picosecond laser technology produced by Cynosure (USA). This newer generation picosecond laser delivers ultra-short energy pulses to the skin in trillionths of a second. This energy shatters unwanted pigment and tattoo ink into tiny particles easily eliminated by the body (photoacoustic effect). This differs from traditional lasers, which use heat (photothermal effect) to break up unwanted pigment.
This rapid delivery of energy also increases epidermal cell turnover and stimulates collagen production. This process treats skin concerns such as hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tones, prominent pores, acne scars, wrinkles, fine lines, and unwanted tattoos.
PicoSure Pro delivers ultra-short pulses of laser energy to the skin in picoseconds (trillionths of a second). These extremely short pulses create a photomechanical effect, shattering targeted pigment particles without causing significant damage or heat to surrounding tissues.
For pigment-related concerns such as tattoos and hyperpigmentation (freckles, age spots, melasma) the rapid pulses of energy break down the pigment particles into smaller fragments. This process makes it easier for the body's immune system to naturally remove the fragmented pigment, resulting in the lightening or removal of the pigment from the skin.
To stimulate collagen production and improve skin texture, the patented focus lens in the PicoSure Pro generates rapid energy pulses, creating controlled micro-injuries in the skin in a process known as laser-induced optical breakdown (LIOB). This triggers the body's natural healing response, producing new collagen, which helps improve skin firmness, elasticity, and overall texture. This picosecond laser also increases skin turnover, resulting in a brighter and more even skin tone.
PicoSure Pro offers several benefits for individuals seeking skin rejuvenation and repair, including:
PicoSure Pro can effectively treat:
Your skin will be thoroughly cleaned before the procedure begins. Your dermatologist may also apply a topical numbing cream to help minimise discomfort.
During the procedure, your dermatologist will use the PicoSure Pro laser device to deliver short pulses of laser energy to the targeted areas of your skin. You may feel a mild tingling or snapping sensation as the laser pulses are applied. Most patients find the treatment relatively comfortable, especially with Zimmer cooling during the procedure.
The duration of the procedure will depend on the size of the treatment area and the specific skin concerns being addressed. Generally, PicoSure Pro treatments are relatively quick, usually lasting 15 to 20 minutes per session.
To calm the skin following the laser procedure and expedite recovery, we apply a mask to the face for 10-15 minutes, followed by moisturiser and sunscreen at the end of the treatment.
PicoSure Pro can also help lighten or remove pigmentation concerns. For simple pigmentary concerns such as sunspots, freckles, and Naevus of Ota, you can expect visible results after one session. However, for complex pigmentation such as Hori’s Naevus, melasma, or a combination of these, 4-6 sessions are typically required, with improvement noted from the 2nd session onwards. You may notice a gradual improvement in pigmentation irregularities, pores, fine lines and wrinkles, resulting in a more even and radiant complexion.
PicoSure Pro can significantly lighten or remove tattoos, with visible fading occurring after each treatment session. Multiple sessions are usually required for complete tattoo removal, and the ink will gradually fade between sessions.
The number of treatment sessions needed with PicoSure Pro can vary depending on several factors, including the specific skin concern being addressed, the severity of the condition, your skin type, and your desired outcome. In general, 4-6 sessions, spaced 4-8 weeks apart, are required to achieve your treatment goals.

Is PicoSure Pro safe?
PicoSure Pro is considered safe when performed by a qualified doctor or specialist. The PicoSure laser has an established track record. The first version, PicoSure, was launched in 2012 as the first picosecond laser in the world. The updated version, PicoSure Pro, has 50% more power than its predecessor and is the only picosecond laser US FDA-cleared for the treatment of pigmentation in the Naevus of Ota, Hori’s Naevus, and melasma.
What is the downtime after PicoSure Pro treatment?
Downtime is minimal with PicoSure Pro treatments. Patients may experience temporary redness, swelling, or mild discomfort, but these typically resolve within a few hours to a few days. The 755 nm wavelength in the PicoSure Pro is unique. It selects for pigmentation but does not select for haemoglobin, leading to no pinpoint bleeding and less redness after PicoSure Pro treatment compared to other 1064 nm picosecond lasers. The 755 nm wavelength also carries a lower risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation than 532 nm picosecond lasers.
How long do PicoSure Pro results last?
With a proper skincare routine, topical medical-grade creams and good sun protection, PicoSure Pro results can be long-lasting. However, follow-up maintenance treatments at three monthly intervals will be beneficial to sustain the results of this laser.
What is the cost of PicoSure Pro treatment?
Each session of Picosure Pro starts from $600, with the price determined by the area to be treated as well as the underlying complexity of the treatment. For example, if treatment is nearer to the eye, laser eye shields may need to be inserted to protect the eye from injury during treatment.
